To keep pace with evolving electrical codes, CAB® Solar continues to secure expert reviews of its rigorous product testing protocols. In September 2024, CAB® unveiled ModulAir™, its innovative free-air solution, to the PV industry. Prior to its release, ModulAir™ was diligently engineered in-house and then tested by a NRTL to confirm that its performance exceeded code requirements. The data generated by the laboratory tests was then scrutinized by a respected, independent engineering firm, which confirmed that the product is a free-air solution.
CAB® Solar didn’t stop there. They went the extra mile to further subject ModulAir™ to a careful review by Bill Brooks, a distinguished PV electrical code expert. Bill Brooks, PE, Principal of Brooks Engineering, has over 32 years of experience designing, installing, and evaluating grid-connected PV systems, and has written numerous technical manuals and articles for the PV industry that are widely relied upon by industry professionals.
After his review of ModulAir™’s testing data and engineering report, Mr. Brooks updated a White Paper that he previously authored, confirming that ModulAir™ is a free-air hanger that meets the requirements of the electrical codes.
Brooks stated, “The modeling and testing performed by CAB® shows that pairs of conductors can be supported in each ModulAir™ section and achieve free air ampacities. The separation provided by the CAB® ModulAir™ system allows conductors to be installed such that the free air conductor ampacity table can be used.”
